Summer Nights at the Daum presents: SpoFest

Summer Nights at the Daum presents: Spofest, an evening of spoken word and music. Thursday, August 22, at 6 p.m. Free and open to the public. In the final Summer Night event, the Daum will host SpoFest, a community group that promotes the writing and sharing of poetry and prose in the Sedalia area. In conjunction with the exhibition Particle & Wave: PaperClay Illuminated, Rebecca Hutchinson (whose work is included in that show) will construct a site-specific installation in the Daum Museum’s Scott Gallery. Hutchinson’s sculptural assemblages are influenced by ecosystem dynamics and environmental concerns. Although her installations do not replicate nature, they reference the nesting and colonization of insects and birds, the search for space by plants, and massed floral motifs found on antique textiles. Particle & Wave: PaperClay Illuminated is a groundbreaking exhibition featuring 45 artists from across the globe who incorporate paper pulp and organic fibers into their clay. The artists choose paperclay for its adaptability, tensile strength, translucency, and ecological and sustainable characteristics. The medium also increases freedom of expression for the artists, who reveal a breadth of technique, concept, and form. The Daum Museum will be closed for Thanksgiving break Wednesday, November 27-Friday, November 29, 2019. The museum will return to normal hours the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Weekend hours at the Daum are Saturday-Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
