From an e-mail from Barbara Cooper, 5/23/2014: “The pieces are from a pretty extensive series that I did between 84 and 87. They are each one of a kind and from a process that I called “lost plant” instead of lost wax. The originals were made from plants adhered together with wax and then cast in bronze, patinaed, buffed and painted with layers of acrylic. The ones that you have been presented are from the first year that I made these, after returning from a fellowship at what was the Johnson Atelier in Princeton NJ.” -See also her 1987 Tool Statement and images of other works in the series, saved under Multimedia in the accession record.
